Satish Gupta
In 1981, business schools were just beginning to understand the importance of international business and trade. That year, Satish Gupta graduated with an MBA in international business from the University of Dallas with a strong foundation in this burgeoning area of globalization. It was through his classes at UD that Gupta saw China and India begin to dominate trade in the Far East and was inspired to set up SB International. Gupta attributes much of his success in global trade that would soon follow to the high caliber of business education he received at UD.
SB International began as an international importer and exporter of steel and metal products. Since 2004, the SB Group of companies have focused on the Energy Sector. As an experienced player in the global arena, the company became involved in the import, distribution, and manufacture of Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) and Line Pipe, which are specialized steel pipe and tubing products used in the oil and gas industry. Under Gupta’s leadership, the group has established itself as one of the leading suppliers of high-quality steel products in North America, at globally competitive prices, with revenues in excess of one billion USD.
Having a balance in life is extremely important to Gupta. He believes that one of the key components to achieving this balance is giving back to your community in any way possible. In 2013, Gupta and his wife, both graduates of the university’s MBA program, made a 12 million USD gift to the University of Dallas for the construction of a new, state of the art building to house the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business. This donation was the single largest in the university’s 57-year history. Their dream was for the College of Business to become a global meeting ground for diversity and understanding among cultures and to empower students to become strong business leaders who go forth into the world and build stronger communities. “The University of Dallas inspired not only our careers, but our lives, and we hope this new College of Business will inspire business students who come to UD from all over the world,” said Satish Gupta.
Gupta is actively involved with a variety of organizations related to health, cultural education, and community outreach. He is the founder of the Gupta Agarwal Charitable Foundation which provides primary health care services to the uninsured, subsidizes medical research, and supports several initiatives promoting global literacy. It has been a supporter of the Primary Care Clinic of North Texas and the Greater Dallas Arya Samaj Cancer Clinic, a system of non-profit healthcare facilities providing medical care to the uninsured adults in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex since 2003. He has served as a Trustee of the Southwestern Medical Foundation in Dallas and is the President of the DFW Indian Cultural Society.
