Assurance of Learning Seminar I (New York)
This seminar will take place at Baruch College-The City University of New York. This seminar will begin at 8:30 a.m. on day one and conclude at 4:15 p.m. on day two.

Build skills and network in this interactive, workshop-style seminar focused on creating a customized Assurance of Learning (AoL) process for your school. Build and refine your AoL process through group interactions, breakout sessions, and expert facilitation.
Focusing on Standard 5: Assurance of Learning of the 2020 AACSB accreditation standards, the seminar will cover the entire AoL process step–by–step to help you gain a clear understanding of assessment, competency goals (learning goals), learning objectives, data collection, and rubrics. The seminar will also provide a variety of regional resources and examples for customized learning. Using this information, you will have an opportunity to practice what you have learned with your peers in order to further develop a working knowledge of how to create the best AoL process for your school.
Learning Objectives
- Gain a working knowledge of the steps in the AoL process
- Recognize the AoL expectations based on the 2020 AACSB Accreditation Standards
- Understand the fundamentals of competency goals (learning goals) and learning objectives as well as designing effective rubrics
- Understand the relevance of Table 5.1 in regard to initial accreditation and continuous improvement reviews
- Recognize the role of indirect measures
Facilitators
Anthony Devine, Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow
Anthony is Director of Learning & Teaching and Senior Lecturer in Accounting at Adam Smith Business School. Leading the Learning & Teaching team, Anthony is responsible for the operational and strategic elements of the Learning and Teaching portfolio. He has significant experience in learning and teaching through his work with external accreditation bodies such as AACSB where he currently serves as global lead for Assurance of Learning. Anthony’s research encompasses a range of topics which include blockchain, technology, governance, accounting, and family business. Prior to joining the Business School, Anthony was at Northumbria University where he undertook a range of roles including Programme Leader, Director of Accreditation, Associate Head of Department, and University Strategic Lead for the Middle East. In addition to Learning and Teaching, Anthony has extensive experience with the creation, maintenance, and growth of international campuses.
Karen Tarnoff, College of Business and Technology, East Tennessee State University
Karen serves the College of Business and Technology at East Tennessee State University as the Associate Dean for Assessment and International Programs coordinating the assessment process across departments including Accountancy; Management, Marketing, and Supply Chain; Economics and Finance; Computing; Engineering, Engineering Technology, Interior Architecture, and Surveying; and Digital Media for multiple accrediting bodies (i.e., AACSB, ABET, NASAD, CIDA and SACS). Karen is an AACSB Global Lead Facilitator for its Assurance of Learning Seminars authoring seminar materials and creating content for other offerings. She has given numerous assessment presentations and has helped many schools develop, implement, and refine their systems.

Faculty, department chairs, deans, and those working on obtaining or maintaining accreditation at their school. Individuals who are new to assurance of learning, who have recently joined an AoL committee, who are implementing an AoL plan, or who need to be familiarized with the general terminology and implementation.
