How engaged are your students in your classes? Are they being challenged with real-world exercises and receiving performance feedback in real time? This course is designed to help instructors integrate business simulation games into their teaching efficiently, effectively, and with confidence.

By participating in this course, instructors will become proficient and reflective practitioners of teaching with business simulation games, thereby improving student engagement and learning outcomes, as well as increasing their own professional satisfaction.

Who Should Attend

Business school teaching faculty and other learning professionals interested in increasing student engagement and improving learning outcomes through the use of business simulation games.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the potential benefits and costs of using business simulation games in their courses
  2. Identify and evaluate business simulation games
  3. Plan for the use of business simulation games
  4. Facilitate a teaching session incorporating the use of business simulation games (brief-play-debrief)
  5. Evaluate the effectiveness of the use of business simulation games in their course
  6. Integrate business simulation games in face-to-face, blended or online educational settings

Course Format

This online course includes asynchronous and synchronous learning and continuous support from the facilitator. This course consists of three modules, with a total course duration of three weeks:

  • Planning to use business simulation games (week one)
  • Using business simulation games in teaching (week two)
  • Evaluating effectiveness and integrating business simulation games in your course (week three)

Content includes guidelines, frameworks, and shared experiences related to teaching with business simulation games. Each week will include written materials for review, videos, links to relevant resources, online group discussions, and assignments that will build up to the actual or planned use of participants' business simulation game in a course at their institution.

Complemented with ongoing facilitator feedback to each participant, the program of instruction for this course aims for participants to have a business simulation game identified that suits the learning objectives of their own course and a plan for using the game in class.

Each week will also include one live synchronous session. View the agenda for details.

“This course was a great learning experience for me. Prof Rogmans explained the basics very well and also shared a lot of practical insights, based on his rich experience on how to make simulations effective in the classroom. The simulation which he chose as a demo gave us a practical feel. All the videos involving the experiences of other professors were very engaging. Overall, a very good course on a state-of-the-art learning platform and well supported by [AACSB].”
“This course was very nicely organized and delivered. Thanks to Tim and [AACSB]!”
“The facilitator was excellent! The combination of experience with using simulations and as a developer of his own simulation was magical. The facilitator took the time to answer questions, to respond to our comments and to include topics requested by participants. This is an excellent example of constructivist type of andragogy. Materials were presented in an attractive way. Information was current and precise.”
“Impeccable. Every session and posting worked like a Swiss watch. I would certainly recommend this course (on- line).”
“Fantastic facilitation, I really enjoyed the course content, and highly valued the synchronous meetings!”
