Lawrence Landry

Lawrence (Larry) Landry earned his BSBA in management in 1971, and an MBA in 1975 from Clark University. He was Clark’s CFO in the late 1970s, then went on to become CFO at Swarthmore and chief investment officer for Southern Methodist University. He was then chief investment officer for more than 10 years at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. He was co-creator and the first chair of The Investment Fund for Foundations (TIFF), founded in 1991 by a network of foundations to support the investing activities of nonprofits who cannot afford their own internal investment organizations. In his roles at the MacArthur Foundation TIFF, Landry played a major role in strengthening the financial health of several organizations that benefit society.

After leaving the MacArthur Foundation, Landry founded Westport Advisors, an investment company that funds and develops continuing care retirement communities throughout the United States. In 2007, Landry founded Masterpiece Living, an organization built on a specific philosophy of aging well. Landry is CEO of the company, and his brother, Roger, author of Live Long, Die Short: A Guide for Authentic Health and Successful Aging, is president. Masterpiece Living is built on research that initially came out of the MacArthur Foundation Study on Aging. The company provides tools to senior centers and retirement homes to help them to provide and measure the effects of programming that supports the successful aging of their clientele.

Landry leads Masterpiece Living, along with his brother, in an innovative way that helps many Americans live well in their senior years. His business and financial acumen, coupled with his brother’s medical background and expertise, have created a valuable resource to forward-thinking retirement communities and organizations that work with seniors. Rather than build and run their own senior care centers, the Landrys, through Masterpiece Living, have found an effective way to amplify the reach of solid research and related tools to benefit many elderly Americans.

Throughout his professional career, Landry has applied his business skills and financial acumen to support nonprofit organizations and those that are critical to human development and well-being, such as universities, foundations, and senior living facilities. Landry has also brought his expertise and the value of his many years of experience at different organizations to the Clark Board of Trustees. He served as a trustee for 20 years, including as chair and vice chair.
